9th Grade

Counselors call in all 9th graders within the first month to see how they are doing and introduce them to our services. All freshmen will be in a 6-week Life Choices group as part of their health class either first or second semester. Topics discussed each week include:

  • Self-concept
  • Family
  • Learning from mistakes
  • Driving responsibilities
  • Friends
  • Dating
  • College--what it takes to get in

10th Grade

Two experts from the world-renowned organization, Freedom >From Chemical Dependency, speak to the sophomore religion classes for one week about the signs and dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. The representatives from FCD make themselves available to speak to the faculty as well as the parents.

11th Grade

All juniors will be in a career/college awareness group either first or second semester during their lunch or free period once a week for 10 weeks. Early second semester guidance meets with junior parents. Topics that are discussed include:

  • College groups
  • College visits
  • College requirements and what colleges are looking for in a student

In October College Night is held:

  • The college book is passed out outlining the college application process
  • Representatives from private and Georgia public universities discuss the different admissions procedures

12th Grade

Guidance will meet with seniors to review college application procedures in mid-August during a long homeroom and conduct workshops on essays and interviews for college. In September guidance meets with senior parents. Topics include:

  • Senior application and financial aid deadlines
