SARA
GEIGER
HEAD VARSITY COACH
In her first year of coaching at St. Pius, coach Sara Geiger, lead the Lady Lions to at a state championship game. The Lady Lions ended the season with a 20 – 2 record, racked up 130 goals, and demonstrated remarkable defense only allowing 9 goals to be scored.
Previous to Pius, Coach Geiger played four years of Division I soccer for the Samford bulldogs in Birmingham, Alabama. During those four years she accumulated numerous awards including Second Team All – OVC and All – OVC Tournament Team. She helped lead Samford to four straight back to back regular season conference championships and scored a penalty kick to send the bulldogs into the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Preceding her career at Samford, Geiger played for Parkview High School and Gwinnett Soccer Association. At Parkview, Geiger recorded two regional championships and a state championship her senior year. She scored the game winning goal in the state championship game in the last thirty seconds as fans were walking out of the stadium. Her performances awarded her the Gwinnett County Player of the Year in 2003 and she was named one of only two girls from Georgia as a NSCAA high school All – American. Along with high school accomplishments, Geiger’s club team won the 2001 National Championship and finished third nationally in 2002 and 2003.
Coach Geiger was very pleased with her team last year, has established high expectations, and only hopes to continue the success in the years to come.
MARY ETHERIDGE
VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH
Mary Etheridge
is a kindergarten teacher at IHM. She played Varsity
soccer at Dacula High School all 4 years and was named a Gwinnett
Scholar Athlete her last two years. She went on to attend Emory
University to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology and played
soccer during her freshman and part of her sophomore year (her
college career was cut short due to ACL/MCL knee surgery).
Mary currently
plays on an amateur team at the Atlanta Silverbacks Club. She was
the Assistant Varsity Women's Soccer Coach at The Galloway School
for the 2004 season and has coached soccer camps
and clinics with the North American Soccer Academy and the Classic
Soccer Academy in Dacula.
In Coach Etheridge's first season as the Junior Varsity soccer coach at Pius, she lead the team to an undefeated season. The Junior Varsity team scored 67 goals and only got scored on once the entire season. Coach Etheridge's success at the Junior Varsity level earned her the position as the 2008 Varsity girls assistant coach. Her knowledge of the game and coaching experience will help the Lady Lions continue successful soccer.

RAINES
MIDDLE SCHOOL COACH
Greg Raines has been coaching
soccer in Atlanta since 1985. He has coached at TYSA, Gwinnett YMCA,
and most recently at GSA. A 1980 graduate of St. Pius X, he played
3 years of varsity soccer. While at St. Pius, his team was state
runner-up in 1979 and regional champs in 1980. After high school,
he continued to play for an amateur club team while attending college
in Atlanta .
Greg has been involved in the St. Pius program
for the last 4 years as a soccer parent of current varsity players. In the 2007 season of the middle school team, Coach Raines lead the team to an undefeated season with a 9 - 0 record. The team recorded 24 goals and was only scored on twice. The middle school team's success shows a rewarding future for the St. Pius girls soccer program.
